The military operation against Boko Haram insurgents proves to be success despite criticism. The map shows gradual significant decline of Jihadists militant movement influence in the north-eastern Nigeria.
The area in the north-eastern Nigeria where Boko Haram insurgents felt free to impose their reign of terror is steadily shrinking. The graph shows Jihadists militant movement gradual power decline over time after launching a counter-terrorist operation by a joint force of 8,700 troops from Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Niger. Their offensive against militants led to significant success as seen on the map. The Jihadists lose the war for territory of their Islamic state, which proved to be the territory of lawlessness and terror.
According to the map the only place where Boko Haram fighters still feel relatively safe is Sambisa forest. Nevertheless after the series of attacks carried out by troops in Sambisa, many Boko Haram camps were destroyed and nearly 700 female hostages freed. Reports describe Boko Haram militants in total disarray, lacking fuel and ammunition.
But whereabouts of 276 Chibok girls, abducted more than year ago, still remain unknown.
At the same time Amnesty International report claims that nearly 2,000 females, girls and women are still held captives by Boko Haram. UNICEF says nearly 1.5 million people displaced by fighting including 800,000 children.- naij.com
